Joe N. Tompkins, Sr., 70 of Connersville died Monday morning, July 18, 2016 in the emergency room at Fayette Regional Health System.

A Connersville Native, Joe was born September 1, 1945, the son of Delbert and Mary Johnson Tompkins and attended Connersville area schools. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963 and honorably served his country for seven years. On March 3, 1973, Joe married the former, Rosalind L. Ailes. Joe was employed at Connersville Paint Company for thirty-six years and was previously employed at Lee Cylinders in Cambridge City. He was proud to work at Kunkel's Drive-In as a teenager. Joe was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the V.F.W. In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed being with people and socializing.

Joe is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Rosalind L. Tompkins, his sons and their spouses: Joe N. Tompkins II and Sheila of Brookville; Elvis A. Tompkins and Angela of Greenfield; his grandchildren: Tyler, Dylan, Tanner, Taisha, Trevis and Clayton Tompkins, Nick Schnitker, Victoria Dancer and Sammie Kates; his siblings and their spouses: Robert Tompkins and Shirley of Connersville; Harold Tompkins and Valerie of Florida; Evelyn of Las Vegas; his mother-in-law: Betty Stewart of Connersville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday, July 21st, 2016 from 4 to 6 p.m. with military honors by the Fayette County Veterans Council . Cremation will follow. There will be no public funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Joe N.
