Joe Vincent Obituary
Joe Hayes Vincent, 77, departed this life Tuesday, May 17, 2016, in Alexandria, Louisiana, after a long illness. Born in Latanier on June 22, 1938, to John Hayward Vincent and Jessie Mae Vincent, Joe was the fourth of 14 children.
Joe attended Rapides Parish public schools and started working at an early age. He served briefly in the U.S. Army and worked in various industries prior to becoming disabled. He was a member of the now-defunct Universal Grand Lodge of the Masons.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherrika Evette Vincent; and seven siblings: sisters Francis Marie Lawson and Vivian Diane Beckley, and brothers Charles Vincent, Eddie Vincent, Fred Vincent, Marvin Vincent and Donald Vincent.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory three sons, Donnie Hopkins, Jerry Hopkins and Rickie Vincent, and two daughters, Shawanda Smith and Christa Vincent Helaire; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John L. (Maxine) Vincent Sr. and Lee R. (Ida) Vincent; four sisters, Gracie Marshall, Deloris Faye Dancy, Cleo (Michael) Allen and Virgie Vincent; a host of nieces and nephews; cousins; and a very special friend, Martha Young.
Services will be held at noon Saturday at New Scott Olly Baptist Church, Willow Glen Road, with interment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with Bishop Lynell Smith officiating. Winnfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
