To the Walters Family:

I was fortunate to join O'connor & Hannan in 1984. Joe was not only a great attorney, he had a compassion for and understanding of people that I will always admire.

I trusted Joe to always be fair and straight-forward. He was an unsurpassed mentor and friend. Joe never let me down and was always supportive and available, even after I left the firm.

So, to Joe: enjoy the slumber that you never desired. I know that we will all miss your passion, intensity, commitment and wisdom. You will not be forgotten.

I worked for Mr. Walters' firm as a receptionist in 1971-75 (part time and then full time). On first meeting, his opponents thought he was just an ordinary man, not flashy or "in your face;" then they came up against his extraordinary intelligence and legal knowledge. There was nothing ordinary about him then. With the death this week of his partner Pat O'Connor, the legal community has lost two of its most memorable attorneys. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

HIS LOSS PUT AN EMPTY PLACE IN MY HEART -- BUT THAT PLACE WAS IMMEDIATELY FILLED WITH FOND MEMORIES OF HIS OUTSTANDING ABILITIES AS AN ATTORNEY, HIS KINDNESS TO THOSE WHOSE LIVES HE TOUCHED, AND HIS CARING FOR ALL HE MET. HE LIVES ON IN THOSE OF US FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE KNOWN HIM.

I worked as the Controller for the O'Connor & Hannan Law Firm from 1986-1998 where Mr. Walters was the Managing Partner at the time in 1986 in our Mpls. Office. I had alot of respect for him as one of the greatest Litiigators of our time. It was an honor to serve him.
