Passed away on February 17, 2019 at the age of 93. Joel was born to Domingo and Maxima Cruz on July 10, 1925 in Masbate, Philippines. Joel and his wife, Luz just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on February 14 – St. Valentine's Day. He was the proud father of three children and their families: Bessie and husband Mark from Colorado, Joel Jr. and his wife Sylvia in Indianapolis, Deborah and husband Todd in Carmel. To his eight grandchildren, he was a loving "Lolo"; Sharon (Ryan) – Chicago, IL, Mark – Aurora CO, Timothy (Blair) – Rockville, IN, Joseph (Vicki) – Whitestown, IN, Kelsey – San Francisco, CA, Ryan – Aurora CO, Sarah – Chicago, IL, Michael – Carmel, IN and great-Lolo to Samuel (son of Joseph and Vicki). He is survived by two sisters. Joel received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical engineering from MIT (Mapua Institute of Technology) in Manila and worked for the Philippine National Railways before emigrating with his family to the U.S. in 1977. He quickly passed the Professional Engineer exam in his 50's and worked as a Hydraulic Engineer for the State of Indiana until his retirement in 1993. A member of Southport Presbyterian Church since 1979, he was a long time member of the choir singing with Luz. A consummate engineer and handyman, he was an avid tennis player and chess champion filling shelves with trophies. Visitation will be Friday, February 22 from 4 – 8 pm at Little and Sons Stop 11 Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 23 at 11 am at Southport Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www. LittleandSonsIndianapolis.com.
