Dear Jill, Tanner and Maddie,
Almost a week and we still can hardly believe Joel is gone from us all. "Loud and Proud" as we heard him say so many times will become a memory, especially for Dirk, who thought so much of him. Your dad was so very proud of you, Tanner and Maddie, and Jill - he loved you all so very much. Walking the trail to your cabin, meeting Emmett and hearing Joel's laughter will be missed. We are so sorry for your loss. Our hearts go out to you. How sad to lose your husband and father so young. We can't imagine what you are going through.
The lake will not be the same without Joel there. Dirk will especially miss him terribly up there. Joel was so proud of each of you and was excited to get things done up there for you. If we can help you with anything especially up north, let us know. I'm sure Dirk will keep an eye on things up there for you until you are ready to come up.

I was so sorry to see this today. I went to school with Joel in Fridley from kindergarten to graduation. I saw him for the first time in more than 30 years last summer.
