Joellen Patricia Twohig Deever

Deever, Joellen Twohig Joellen Patricia Twohig Deever, formerly of Sioux City, IA, passed into eternity October 14, 2013 in Edina, MN. The only child of Hugh Joseph & Mary Ellen Twohig was born April 6, 1930 and grew up in Blessed Sacrament Parish. She was educated by Dominican Sisters at the parish school and at the order's motherhouse in Mt. Sinsiniwa, WI. She completed her education in Art History at Shimer College in Mt. Carroll, IL. In Dec 1951, Joellen married WWII veteran Russell Ray Deever of Vienna, WV. They made their home in Sioux City where Russell owned a wholesale lumber company & flew in the Iowa Air Guard. He preceded her in death in 1962. They are survived by their five children & spouses, Howard Hugh (Kathryn) of Omaha; Nancy Jane of Duluth; Mary Joan of Minneapolis; Margaret Twohig Van Why (Robert) of St. Paul; and David Lee (Lisa) of Minneapolis. Also surviving are their six grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth, Robyn Rae, Joanna Lee & Daniel Twohig Deever; Jonah Hartley & Natalie Margaret Van Why. Joellen was an intelligent, witty & multi-talented woman, traits evident in her children and grandchildren. She was very active in her community and local politics. She will be buried next to her husband and father in a committal service at Calvary Cemetery on Friday, November 8th in Sioux City, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be directed to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina or the Animal Humane Society.
