Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2025.
Mrs. Joetta Kathryn McCarty, age 87, of Huachuca City, Arizona, passed away peacefully Monday, September 1, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on August 28, 1938, in Long Beach, California. She was the daughter of Thomas Tate and Kathryn Tate. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Gilbert (Red) Sanders in Southern Arizona. She is survived by 4 siblings: Elizabeth Williams, Gary Tate, Susan Burnell, and Gail Dee Barrett, and preceded in death by her stepbrother: Gayle Sanders.

Joetta was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Allen Joseph McCarty. As a couple they had 3 children: Kathryn Arabia, Allen McCarty, and Debra Hobaica. They settled in Prescott, Arizona where they resided until 1976 when they relocated to Huachuca City, Arizona where they lived out the remainder of their lives.

Joetta was blessed with 10 grandchildren: Sarah Schmaltz (deceased), Carl Joy, Ashley McCarty, Joseph Joy, Tommy Schmaltz, Charlie Joy, Paul Hobaica Jr, Lynne Hobaica Barnett, Richard Hobaica, and James Hobaica.

She was also blessed with 21 great grandchildren: Tyler Smolko, Tristan Schmaltz, Ellie Schmaltz, Addie Schmaltz, Leo Schmaltz, Rosie Schmaltz, Cecilia Schmaltz, Kaydee Zerbel, Gracie Zerbel, Kolter Zerbel, Klancy Zerbel, McKenzie Guinane, Karson Joy, Carter Joy, Charlee Joy, Luke Hobaica, Blake Hobaica, Nolan Hobaica, Joetta Barnett, Talia Tia, and Becket Tia.

She leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her as well.

Joetta was a devoted homemaker and loving mother. She had a special knack for home decorating and loved doing it. She had a green thumb and loved growing plants. She also had a passion for going on family picnics and taking family trips. She had a love for shopping, spending time with friends and attending church on Sundays. She loved country music from Tennessee Earnie Ford to Blake Shelton. But most of all, she thoroughly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and had her toy room stocked with all kinds of innovative toys for them to play with when they came over.

A memorial service and celebration of life is to be planned for a later date. When and where is to be determined.
