Joey Bivins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2025.
Mr. Joey Wayne Bivins passed away on April 27, 2025, in Drummonds, Tennessee, at the age of 67. He was born on July 22, 1957, in Steele, Missouri, to James Allen Bivins and Jo Maxine Bivins. He was also the brother of Jerry Bivins.

From a young age, Joey demonstrated a remarkable work ethic. While still in high school, he began working and frequently left classes early to take on responsibilities beyond his years. His dedication led to a successful career with Fred's Family Dollar Store, where he advanced to the role of Vice President of Real Estate before retiring in 2021.

Joey was active in sports during his high school years, participating in football, basketball, and baseball. Known for his vibrant personality and sense of humor, he had a gift for bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His love of pranks and infectious laughter left lasting memories with many.

He is survived by his girlfriend Virginia; daughter Jennifer and her husband James, daughter Ashley and her husband Will, daughter Lacey and her husband Kaelan and his youngest daughter Kendall. Joey also had many grandchildren;Gavin, Caleb, Kyleigh, Joseph, Able, and Sophia. He cherished the time spent with each of them.

A lifelong animal lover, Joey shared deep bonds with his pets. In earlier years, he traveled with a beloved cat. Later in life, he cared for his cats BoBo and Little Bit and held a special affection for Labrador retrievers.

Joey also had a great appreciation for good food-especially enjoying meals and desserts prepared by Virginia.

Though he achieved much throughout his life, Joey's greatest pride was always his family. Saved at an early age, he now rests peacefully with the Lord.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Dad , I miss you alot . I think you would have been happy with your going away service . It was exactly as you wanted . These last few days have been tough . I keep waiting for you to call me to tell me you need something or for you to walk around the corner of the barn while we are outside . I can hear your voice and even your walker . 35 years on this earth and not one has been spent without you. I have stood by your side through the years . I have seen all there was to see . I am so thankful that I was able to. I carry memories forward but I know that you are at peace now .
Love you ,
Ash

Joey was my co-worker and Fred's for many years. I had the pleasure of being his District Manager and watch him grow as a young man throughout his career. He will be missed by many but the chain will only be broken for a short time and then we will be reconnected.

I didn´t know Joey personally, but I know he was an incredible human being. I work with his daughter Lacey, and from the stories she shared, it was clear he was one of a kind. She loved their phone calls and would often come back from the break room gleaming, smiling from ear to ear. You could tell they shared a bond that was indescribable-one of those rare connections you find yourself silently thanking God for.

Joey was beyond proud of Lacey and the woman she´s become. He was so excited that their little family was growing, and I´ll never forget the joy on Lacey´s face when he surprised her with Sophia´s stroller. His heart was fully in supporting his kids and grandkids. Even though Lacey was grown, she was still his little girl-and seeing that love firsthand was something truly beautiful. He will be deeply missed.

To papaw, papaw was my grandpa who I loved and still love very deeply. He shared some great memories with me. I love him very very much and it is hard to think that he is not here on this earth any more. But just because he is not on this earth any more does not mean I will not see him again, he was saved by the lord, I will see him again. I LOVE you SOOOOOOOOOO very much papaw, God Bless. Love, Kyleigh/Beagle Queen.

Joey started with Fred's as a Store Manager Trainee in Paragould, AR, then he was promoted to Store Manager of Jacksonville, AR where he was the Area Manager over the Pine Bluff, AR stores as well. He was then promoted to Store Manager of Bartlett, TN and then to District Manager. Later he was promoted to Vice President of Real Estate. Our Fred's Management team was like one big family back in those days. Our Fred's Family will always cherish our memories of working with Joey. Our prayers are with all of the Bivins Family in this time of sorrow.

To my father in law "pops" we shared a special bond as father in law and son in law and even though you we´re my father in law it was always more like A father and son bond. Our support to one another was unspoken. You treated me like part of the family from day one. We shared some great memories together and we were always both eager and willing to help one another. Rest assured I will still go on day to day being myself and taking care of things for you and all of our family. I love you and I will miss you dearly love always will.

I´m going to miss you cousin. I just move back to TN and what do you do you move to the best mansion. Now you know I will never be able to afford that in this lifetime. I´ll have to wait until my reservations are called but you enjoy that reunion and we will see each other again.

Joey always had a kind word a hug and of course a joke, if you were family if you were a co worker you could be on the end of that joke as well. Joey was always happy to see you and was always up for a good long visit. Love you Cousin.

While I never got to meet Joey, I´ve learned so much about how amazing and kind this man was during my relationship with Kendall. I know he truly loved his entire family and I hope he knows he will be missed by all of us.

I´ve only had known Joey for a short few years but in that time I have been shown what a steadfast and honorable man he is. Between everyone of his kids word of mouth i have learned that when he was able to, he put his kids first and he made sure to set an example for them that with hard work anything can be accomplished.

--To Joey : I´ll always love and protect Lacey with my whole heart no matter what. Rest easy pops.

Joey, one of the greatest things your daughter gave me wasn´t just a job-it was an example. I learned how to be a hard worker by watching Lacey, and I know she got that from you. At Starbucks, she didn´t just show up-she went above and beyond for her customers, for her team, and for her friends. I spent a lot of time with her there, and even though I´ve moved on from that job, what stuck with me most was the work ethic she passed down from you.

But what impressed me most wasn´t just how hard she worked in her job-it was how hard she worked at being a friend. She walked with me through some really tough seasons of life. Even when her responsibilities with Able grew, and she had so much on her plate as a mom, she still made time to care. That´s the kind of person she is, and it´s clear she learned that from the kind of man you were.

Know that even without knowing you directly, your life will make an impact on generations to come-through Lacey, through her kids, and through every life she touches. Thank you for passing that on.
