John Abplanalp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 9 to Mar. 10, 2023.
On March 8, 2023 John Abplanalp, 96, peacefully left our world. Originally from Buffalo, NY, he worked

for the South Buffalo Railroad. After retiring, he and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Ft. Myers, Florida to be

with his family and friends. He was preceded in life by his wife whom he was married for 72 years. John

leaves a wonderful family; son, Ron Abplanalp; daughter, Sandy Armbrust and son-in-law Fred;

daughter, Cindy Gould and son-in-law J. He also leaves grandchildren, Matthew Boutwell and Nikki

Lawley.

John was a World War II veteran and served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Ticonderoga. He

was immensely proud of his service and was never seen without his WW II veteran cap. He will always

be remembered for his sense of humor and love for life. He was once interviewed on his birthday by a

local reporter who asked him what he lived for now that he was 95 years old. He told her that he lived

for his kids and family, then leaned in and whispered with a wink and a grin...and I also live for a little bit

of wine and gambling. John's sense of humor was infectious; he would pass on his wisdom and

experience to anyone who asked then end with a shrug and a smile, take his fingers to his mouth,

pretend to lock his lips and say...that's enough. No, John, it will never be enough. You may have left us,

but your memory never will. Your family and friends will miss you; now go join your lovely bride.

Ron, Sandy and Cindy,
Your Dad was such a good man. Took great care of his family and in turn, you took care of him til the very end. What a privilege to have him in your lives for so long! Cherish those memories.

It was an honor to know your dad and to work with your family so closely over the last few years! My favorite part about your dad will always be his class and sense of humor. Heaven gained an angel.
