BABILON JOHN PHILIP
Age 93, of Etna, on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Born July 16, 1921, in O'Hara Twp. Son of the late Philip Sebastian and Mary Koch Babilon. Mr. Babilon was a 1939 graduate of Etna High School. He was a laborer between 1939 and 1942 at Enamel Metals, Etna. He was an order and schedule expediter and later a senior claims adjustor from 1944 to 1967 for Crucible Steel, Pittsburgh. He served as a customs agent for the U.S. Government from 1968 to 1978. On August 5, 1942, he enlisted and was sworn in as an aviation cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was called to active duty on February 1, 1943. He was stationed at the Nashville Classification Center, in Nashville, TN, Maxwell Field Pre-Flight School in Alabama, and at Lawson General in Atlanta, GA, from where he received an honorable discharge in September 1944. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, Sharpsburg, PA. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Mary Herbig, who preceded him in death on December 7, 2004. They were married on May 11, 1946, in St. Mary's Church. Also preceding him in death were five sisters, Rosemarie "Dolly" Balkey, Margaret Laughlin, Anna Ferber, Regina Pudelsky, and Mary "Sissy" Dugan. He is survived by four daughters, Linda Campbell and husband, Rod, of Shippenville, PA, Janet Dean and husband, Jim, of Chapel Hill, NC, Ruth Anne Harris and husband, Tim, of Verona, PA, and Nancy Villella and husband, Jake, of Ellicott City, MD; eight grandchildren, Christine Hickman and husband, Scott, of Indianapolis, IN, Colleen Costello and husband, Rich, of Englewood, OH, Bryan Hawkins and wife, Angie, of Dayton, OH, Noelle Hagen and husband, Colby, of Raleigh, NC, Bridget Dean of Raleigh, NC, Emily Marciniak and husband, Kenny, of Pittsburgh, PA, Andrew Harris of Fort Wayne, IN, and Johnny Villella of Ellicott City, MD; and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Wed. 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the BOCK FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Sharpsburg on Thursday at 1 p.m. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Sharps Hill.
