JOHN "Jack" BARTON

JOHN B. BARTON "Jack"  June 18, 1936 ~ December 10, 2017  
Died of complications due to Parkinson's. Born in Greenville, SC to John B. and Ruth Chatham Barton, he graduated from Furman University and the University of Georgia earning a master's degree. He taught at East Carolina University and then entered the Foreign Service of the U.S. Information Agency, serving in Washington DC, Peru, Nicaragua, Spain, Grenada and Brazil as Cultural Attaché and Press Officer. He retired from the Foreign Service in 1993 and resided in Greenville until moving to San Antonio in 2000. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959 in Germany. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 33 years, Nadeen Duggan Barton.In retirement, he took special pride as a founding member of the Furman University Learning in Retirement program, his membership in the Northwestern South Carolina Torch Club, the Foreign Affairs Association and the USIA Alumni Association.Mr. Barton leaves a brother, Bruce; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Linda; two grandchildren, Ben and Jenny and four great-grandchildren.Graveside service will be held at a future date at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.SUNSET NORTHWEST FUNERAL HOME6321 BANDERA ROAD SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS 78238 (210) 521-2111
