John Beane Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2015.
On February 11, this earthly world lost an amazing genuine man. Jack, a long time resident of Sandwich, quietly passed to join his father John. Jack was born on March 13, 1955 to John and Mary (Heffernan) Beane of North Smithfield, Rhode Island.

On June 1, 1991, Jack and Pamela Lyons were married at Scorton Creek in Sandwich and there began raising their three daughters: his pride and absolute joys, Olivia Beane his little shadow and Cali Beane his fashion statement, both of Sandwich; and Jenna Beane his Harley girl, of Winona, Texas. He also leaves his sisters Jane Paterson (Joseph) of North Smithfield, RI, Kathleen Rockstrom (Jan) of Amherst, NH, and Caroline Beane of Aurora, CO, and his brother James Beane of Douglas, MA. Jack also leaves many nieces and nephews throughout the country as well as Australia and Ireland.

Jack graduated in 1973 from North Smithfield High School. Soon after he became a certified welder and worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat at the Groton Naval yard. After meeting Pam in 1986, he became a wash-a-shore to Cape Cod. He was instrumental in the construction of SEMASS power plant in Rochester, MA, and continued working there as a first class maintenance mechanic. He later joined Jacobs Engineering, working on the cleanup efforts at Otis (MMR) on Cape Cod. Most recently Jack worked for Ron's Excavating in Mashpee.

Jack instilled in his daughters the belief that anything can be accomplished, and he always strove to lead by example. He was Jack of all trades. He had many talents and appreciations that he inherited from his parents, which he shared with Pam and his daughters. Jack grew up as an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, whether it was in the family camper, a tent that was strapped down on his Harley, or in the "Honey" on SNK. Jack had a passion for learning and so the love of reading was continuous. Jack loved his Harley and enjoyed countless adventures with friends on yearly and local runs or just a Blast down Cape. Solo or not, it was all about the ride.

Jack was an ardent angler. You could often find him with friends, deep sea fishing, surf casting the flats on the Canal, or fly fishing Scorton Creek, all the while puffing his cigar. He was awarded the Silver LifeSaving Medal by the U.S. Coast Guard for his unselfish heroic actions in saving a life from perils of the sea. The Humane Society of Massachusetts as well as the Carnegie Hero Fund also honored him for these actions stating "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." That was our Jack: a man who always put others before himself without hesitation, a man of his word. Very few men like him walk this earth, and even fewer have earned the love and respect of so many. Our Ripple in still water.
