John BIGGAR Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 19 to Mar. 31, 2017.
BIGGAR, John Henry
John Henry Biggar, 72, of Austin, TX, passed away on Thursday March 16, 2017 at his home, according to his wishes, where he was lovingly cared for by his family and friends. John was born on October 28, 1944 to Bill Biggar and Lucille (Cindy) Shaw Biggar in Alice, Texas.
John and his family later moved to Gainesville, TX where he graduated from Gainesville High School in 1963. A couple of years later, a young girl caught his eye and he and Phyllis Moore were married. John graduated from North Texas State University in 1969 where his mother was a dorm director. He paid his way through college by working for the railroad and loading trucks on the freight docks in Dallas on the weekends.
John's first job out of college transferred him to Austin in 1970. When told he was being transferred again he quit and started his own business. He was never an employee again. John was born with an entrepreneurial spirit and was never afraid to take a risk. He continued to establish numerous successful businesses. In 1980 he dipped his toe into national politics and ran for the U.S. House of Representatives. All during this time, Phyllis continued to support him in every endeavor.
John enjoyed sports, played tennis in college and was an accomplished snow skier. He loved to play golf and made many good friends on the links. He was a longtime member of Austin Country Club. He also loved classic cars and owned several.
John's greatest love was for his family. John liked to say he lived his life by the three 'F's - his faith, his family and his friends. He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. John was a very loving grandfather to his eight grandchildren who called him, Big Dad.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved older sister Billie Lou Biggar Gilmer. John is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years Phyllis; his children Staci Biggar, Craig Biggar and his wife Carrie, Marci Biggar Jones and her husband Marc; his grandchildren Camren and Sofia Ordaz, Caroline, William and Catherine Biggar, Tyler, Olyvia and Audrey Jones; his sister Dicy Perry and her husband David; brother Bobby Biggar and his wife Carol; several special nieces and nephews; and many, many long time friends.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Covenant Presbyterian Church 3003 Northland Drive in Austin, Texas at 2:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of John's life at Chez Zee on Balcones Drive.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice Austin at 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin, Texas 78759. The family would like to thank our special hospice nurse Debbie Cooper and his caring CA Brenda Diaz.

We all remember the good times spent with John, Phyllis and the family and were all saddened with his loss. He has completed his journey and we can only hope that Phyllis, the children and grandchildren will get through this difficult time and remember this wonderful man as he was.
