Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2021.
BRADLEY John Alfred Bradley (Age 65) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John A. Bradley of Washington, DC on May 2, 2021 from complications of lung cancer. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. John is survived by his long-time partner, Nancy H. Maher of Washington, DC; his son Jeffrey A. Bradley of Arlington, VA; his daughter Carolyn M. Bradley of Atlanta, GA; his mother Mrs. Pauline Evers of Estero, FL; his sister Mrs. Pamela Woods of Richmond, VA; his sister Mrs. Renee Brand of Charleston, SC. He will be missed by his beloved hounds Johnson and Lucy. He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. John A. Bradley of Richmond, Virginia and his stepfather, Mr. Garland Evers of Estero, Florida. Loving father and husband, he dedicated a long career at the US Department of Veterans Affairs, retiring after 30 years of service. His many career highlights include managing the VA Liver Transplant Program and being awarded the "Secretary's Award for Exceptional Accomplishments" for leading the effort to defuel a nuclear reactor previously used for VA research activities. A graduate of the University of Maryland and Ball State University, John was an ardent enthusiast of the Maryland Terrapins basketball team and the Washington Nationals. He lived life to the fullest pursuing many interests and passions including collecting and restoring classic cars, fishing, golfing, skiing, cooking, and painting. He loved to read, travel, listen to music, hike in National Parks, and spend time with his many friends and family. A memorial in his honor will be held in the Washington, DC metro area later this year. John and I began working in the VA Transplant Program at the same time. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his responsibility of helping veterans received organ transplants.

John and I bonded immediately and I became close to him and his family. I watched his children grow up. John loved his children dearly and always talked about them. He was very proud of them.

This is a difficult time for John's family but, hopefully, memories of him will bring them comfort and keep him alive in their hearts. My prayers are with them.

As neighbors, we truly appreciated John. I really miss bumping into him while we both completed yard work. Loved that we both had a connection to Richmond, VA. Hugs to the family and Nancy!
