Dear Diana,
I had a chance to meet John on a few occasions when I joined my father for lunch on my trips home. He was such a nice man, and I know my dad held him in the highest regard both personally and professionally. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I am truly saddened to hear of Bruno's passing. He was a founding member of the Muskrat Athletic Club and a true lad. While his physical presence is gone, he will live long in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
I grew up with John and met him initially at Buelah church and attended RPI one year ahead of him. While I lost contact with him for the last 25 years, I will treasure the memories of our growing up, forever.
Driving cross country with four people in a VW beetle to visit him in CA (ask Mark M.), the November holiday football games and "auto surfing" in the church parking lot
and other instances of "youthful exuberance" always bring a smile when remembered.
Words truly cannot express the sadness I feel on his passing or the pleasure that the memories provide.

Dear Diana, Anna and Katie,
Richard, Nina and I send our warmest thoughts of sympathy. Our hearts just ache to know you are without John’s gentle touch, his laughter, and his charm. You are however, never without his love. He was an amazing man, and his strength and determination have always been and will continue to be an inspiration to me. This doesn’t seem possible. Never has a man looked so full of love and life as John looked when in the presence of you, Anna and Katie. The early years of a toddler influence their future character, and Anna and Katie already display the strengths of their father...a gift they will always have from him.
We are so sad and share in your deep loss. With love,

Diana and Family:
I am so saddened to learn of your "Beloved Husband, Father and Brother" passing away. I know your loss is immense, beyond words of description. Knowing you where raised in a Christian home by parents of great faith, I know this will help sustain you and the children. Such a horrific loss is beyond our comprehension. This is why I pray that God in His infinite wisdom and compassion surrounds each of you. Cling ever so close to one and other and allow your tears of sorrow to flow freely. Lean on your family and allow them to help you when ever possible.
It is quite apparent that John was a great man for many reasons. To be so well versed in learning and in giving are great gifts to be bestowed upon one. Your pride of John and his accomplishments must run deep. John’s love for mankind is also evident by his countless hours that where spent in research and education to help his fellow man.
My heart surely breaks for you my dear friend Diana, for I too have lost a husband. Even though it has been eleven years, it at times still feels like it was yesterday. I assure you with time, the pain will lessen and the grief will not be so unbearable. But when your love runs so deep, it will never end. I know it feels as though you will never feel joy, happiness or a sense of void; but with time, those emotions and feelings will return. If I can be of any help or lend an ear, I am available for you at any time night or day. I truly mean this Diana.
I will be praying for each of you, John’s loved ones; without cease.
Love your friend,
Pamela J Crowder-Montez

Diana and family,
I am saddened to hear of John's death at such an early age. His bio was incredible and obviously, he was the rock of your family. In passing, I'm certain he would tell all of us to make sure each and every day is treated like a treasure. May you be blessed with strength and courage in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Ron Faunce

Diana, Mike, Nancy and other family members,
John was a wonderful, admirable person. For me, he was a true and loyal friend, boy and man, for over 45 years.
I shared some things with him that only a life-long friend can, and I know that John truly loved all of you very much. His final fight was so heroic, but he was fortunate to have the love and support of his family and friends, all of whom were great comforts to him.
I will prepare a longer memoir of some scenes from John's life and send it to you as soon as possible.
The world feels much emptier to me without Bruno in it, and I can only imagine how much more powerful the feeling is for you. Perhaps our memories of John can help to console us.

Diana and family,
After reading your husband's obituary, I was amazed at his accomplishments. Your lives with him must have been extraordinary. It is to God we must turn in times of loss and sadness. May He be ever present as you mourn your loss.

I am truly sorry to hear of John's passing. He fought long and hard against a terrible illness. When last he and I talked about his illness, he had a realistic view of its course. He also had an overwehelmng desire to overcome it for the sake of his family. John and I spent many long hours together working on manuscripts and arguing about politics. He always seemed to win. I wanted him to win with his illness in the worst way. I considered him to be a good friend. I admired him very much. I hope that he was able to read at least a portion of the book that I gave to him, but whether he did or not is of no matter. The book was a sign of my esteem for him and I hope that he knew that to be the case. I will miss him. Please feel free to contact me if needed.

To Diana and the girls, know that so very many people respected and cared about your husband and father, respectively. He was my first statistician at the University of Pittsburgh and it was a pleasure to work with him. He taught me so much about how to design experiments and analyze their results. He was so curious about what we were doing and what sorts of statistical errors were involved, that he worked in our lab for a couple of days to learn the procedures that we used. That is unprecedented in my experience.
From someone who lost her father at a relatively young age, know that he will always be with you every day of your lives. Although the pain of your loss is acute at this time, it will get easier with time, and know that he will always be with you, part of you.
Diana, please do not hesitate to call on me if I can be of any assistance.
