John CABOT Obituary

CABOT, Armand (John)
March 19, 1921 - September 14, 2012
The final chapter of a wonderful life has come to a close in Calgary at the age of 91. "Dad" will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 65 years "Mum" (Frankie), his children, Karen (Paul), Paul (Susie), and Colleen (Keith) and son-in-law Jean-Louis. He was predeceased by his son Michael and daughter Roslyn. Grampy will also be deeply missed by his six grandchildren Justin, Meagan, Alexandre, Vanessa, Jonathan, and Matthew. He is survived by his sisters Rosemarie (Montreal), Jean (Campbelltown, N.B.) He was predeceased by his brothers Charles WWII, Cabbie, Tim, Albert and sisters Germaine, Mary Stella, Irene, and Reggie. Dad was born and raised in Dalhousie, N.B. His lifelong love of aviation started as a young boy when he helped pilots secure planes that landed on the ice near his home. "Johnnie" enlisted in the RCAF in 1941 and after training in Saskatchewan was sent to England and then deployed to 435 Squadron in Burma. He met his bride Frances while on leave in Bournemouth, England and they married in 1947. They moved to Montreal where Dad began his 35 year career with Canadair. They lived in Montreal for 62 years when in 2009, they sold their beloved home and moved to Calgary to be closer to family. John and Frankie enjoyed life, traveling the world after his retirement in 1984. Their many trips to Europe (Ireland and Scotland), cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, winter escapes to Daytona Beach, family reunions, and his golfing trips with the men's club at the parish were definitely highlights of his travels. Dad had a gift and passion for woodworking and carving. He could be found most days in his basement workshop working on creating his favorite airplane models, rocking horses, and children's toys. Dad helped design and create many award winning parish floats for the St. Patrick's Day parades in Montreal. He volunteered at St. Anne's Veterans Hospital in the woodworking shop and at the Canadian Aviation Heritage Center where his models are displayed. Visitation will be at Armstrong Funeral Home (1640 Cote Vertu, Ville St. Laurent) on Thursday, September 20 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Transfiguration of our Lord Parish (11775 Filion Street, Montreal) on Friday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to your local Poppy Fund or to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum DC-3 Fund in his memory.

Uncle Johnny, I will always appreciate the way you made me feel in your presence, you loved my mischievousness and will always remember how your eyes lit up when your sister was reprimanding me as a child, and I could see your smile out of the corner of my eye, and loved that! What I got from that was to be myself, of course be respectful, but to have some fun! Love you!

I shall miss you Uncle Johnny....you were a good good man. Life gave you much...but it also took much back. May you rest in peace...and know that you are very lovingly remembered by this niece and her family. Sue (or as you called me...Suzie Q) and Auntie Madge
