Helen Eleanor McCaffrey went home to Jesus on March 28th, 2023 at age 86.
Helen was born to Gustave and Clara Tiwe on April 9, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY. Helen had many fond memories of living in Brooklyn prior to moving to Brick, NJ. She was proud to have mastered the comptometer and enjoyed her many jobs including working as a cashier at Jamesway where she put a smile on everyone’s face.
Helen went on to have three children, John, Donna and Debie while living in Brick, NJ. In 1997, she
moved to Waretown, NJ with her daughter, Debie and son-in-law, Rich. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Helen also loved cooking, fixing things around the house, gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, crafting, fishing, crabbing, and reading the Bible. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God as a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brick, which she shared with those who surrounded her. She always began her greetings with a hug and never left without saying “Ciao, ciao.” Her favorite music was country music, especially the oldies; Johny Cash, John Denver, and Alan Jackson. She loved to put on a record of her favorite music and dance. She loved eating prime rib, lobster, clams and soft-shell crabs. When going out, she would wear her favorite things; Shalimar or Chanel #5, apple polish lipstick, and leopard print clothes. Helen always put others first and kept a running prayer list for anyone she met that needed extra prayers. She was the kindest person one could ever meet and loved to joke around. She had a very close relationship with her family, her brother Bob and her friends; Vi Sipple, Sheila Exter, Emma Grapitin, Pat Ippoliti, Pat Riello, and Doris Mulvaney to name a few.
Helen joins her parents, Gustave and Clara, her daughter Donna, and her brother, Robert in heaven. She is survived by her daughter Debie Burt and her husband Richard of Waretown; her son John Sorensen and his wife Sharon of Jackson; her grandchildren Richard and Daniel Burt, Richard’s fiancé Moujnir Lewis, John Jr and Nicole Sorensen; and her nephews Bruce, Kris and Glen Tive.
Viewing hours will be held on Friday April 7, 2023, from 9-11 AM with a service at 11 AM at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. Interment will follow at White Lawn Cemetery, Point Pleasant.
