SPRINGFIELD, IL - Anita Rose Landess, 93, of Springfield, died April 30, 2014, at St. John's Hospital.
Anita was born March 22, 1921, in Elco, Ill., but her interest in politics brought her to Springfield where she has resided for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Elmer and Elsie Hartline Smithey; two brothers, Gerald and Barton Smithey; and her late husband, Stuart Landess.
She is survived by Karen (Jerry) Hines, her daughter by her first husband, George Walker; four nieces: Jere Emond, Lynn Kelley, Pat Puck, and Marla Parker; two nephews, Don and Phil Smithey; in addition to a stepdaughter, Theresa Sidwell, and stepsons, Pat, Dan, Mike, and Kevin Landess.
There will be a memorial gathering from 10 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2014, until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, the Rev. Larry Hanson officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date.

I am so sorry to see your mother's passing. I knew Anita almost all of my life. She was a wonderful woman. She was a good friend of my mother's Barbara Campbell, so now they are friends in haven again. My sympathy to you and your family.
