Recently i came across my resignation letter to another hospital when I was hired by John. It reminded me so much about his encouraging management manner and his humor even in the face of ugly situations. He was a gentleman and a manager who knew how develop his subordinates talents. What a wonderful and such a rare quality. So sorry he cannot still provide such encouragement to a new generation of new health care colleagues and so incredibly sorry for his familys loss.

Dear Diane & Family, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing. I remember meeting him years ago at Fed and thinking what a charming and sweet man. Diane, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so deeply sorry for your terrible loss.

So very sorry to hear about John. We worked together many years ago at Beth Israel, but since I am Stuyvesant Town neighbor I did see John quite often - I will miss our little chats on 20th Street. John was a dear man and a gentleman.

Diane adn Family- Although we lost touch after many years, in my own career, I have always looked to the example John set as a supervisor: He always wanted those he supervised to grow, learn and challenge. He was never afraid of their growth; just endlessly supportive and kind. He would take time to explain and offer suggestions but he let those he supervised offer suggestions too,and he listened well and thoughtfully. Fondly and Very Sadly, Elizabeth Sommers Strevey- John's Administrative Assistant at Roosevelt.

It was clear to me in sixth grade that John Cox was a person both of great character and enormous charm. How fortunate I was a decade later to be in his circle of friends at Columbia when he and Diane met. I have never witnessed two people fall more madly in love.It was a joy just to be in the same room. There's a line in Virginia Woolf's "To The Lighthouse", about a very connected couple, something like, "The stars stuck to them, and the birds sang through them." That's how they were. Forever. The last time I saw John was at our 50th Buckley reunion, and I told him all this, that they were the most in love couple I'd ever seen. He smiled and nodded and said, "And we still are." Diane, I ache for the shocking, unbearable loss that you and your family are enduring. Just as we shared in your young love, we now share in your sorrow.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss as such a fine man. I came to know John recently and only briefly as a consultant from one of the software companies he recently brought to be installed at HSS. He seemed happy and always trying to be of assistance to his staff. I am sure he will be deeply missed in many lives.
