John Philip Curran, aged 89, passed away on August 25, 2024, at North Shore Hospital in NY. Born on June 15, 1935, in New York City, John was a prominent figure in the advertising industry, dedicating over four decades to national broadcast buying.

John began his illustrious career in 1959 at McCann Ericson, where he managed advertising buys for major brands such as Nestle and Coca-Cola. By 1963, he had risen to Vice President of National TV Buyers at Clyne-Maxon, focusing on the Gillette account. His career took a significant turn in 1965 when he joined the broadcast department of DDB, eventually becoming Senior Vice President and Director of National Broadcast Buying. His strategic insight contributed to the success of accounts like VW, IBM, and American Airlines. In 1986, John moved to LGFE as Senior VP, where he directed buying for IBM, Dean Witter, and Fujifilm. In 1999 he was named EVP at Ketchum Communications. John won an Effie award for his media work on Polaroid an IBM.
In addition to his advertising career, John was an Associate Professor and St. John's University for 5 years teaching a class he developed "The Business of Television", Past President, Breezy Point Board of Directors and a Board of Trustee member for Daytop Village.

John was a devout catholic and parishioner of St. Thomas More RC Church in Breezy Point, NY. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and comfort. He was known for his outgoing personality, fabulous sense of humor, and deep love for sports, particularly his cherished Yankees, Giants and St. John's Basketball. An avid movie buff, John also enjoyed spending time at the beach, relishing the serene landscapes and ocean breeze.

He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Curran; daughter, Kathleen Granath and son-in-law, Brian Granath; grandchildren, Terence John, Gavin James, and Farrell Ann Granath. John was preceded in death by his sons, Terence Matthew (1992-1965)and John Farrell Curran(1966-1971); his sister, Margaret Shelton; brothers, Charles and James Curran; and his parents, Mary and Charles Curran.

A service to celebrate John's life will be held at St. Thomas More RC Church, 204-25 Rockaway Point Blvd, Breezy Point, NY, on September 13, 2024, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.

John's legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know him. His impactful career, devotion to his family and friends, and his unwavering faith leave behind an indelible mark on all.
