John D'Angelo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 3, 2024.
Jesus welcomed one of His biggest fans into paradise on Friday, November 29, 2024. After a valiant fight throughout November against health issues culminating in pneumonia, John Matthew D'Angelo, disciple of Jesus, patriarch of the D'Angelo clan, husband, father, grandfather, almost great-grandfather, family member, friend, and patriot of the USA, was granted his highest hope and ushered into the throne room of God!

During his last week, his family was blessed to have the chance to see him and be on hand as he peacefully departed on Friday afternoon. This giant of a man was filled with passion! His greatest enthusiasm was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he was constantly energized with the anticipation of Jesus's second coming. He lived his life eagerly sharing the treasure of Jesus with everyone he cared about, even if he had just met them.

John grew up in Patterson, NJ, with his parents, the late Matthew William and Antonia Virginia D'Angelo, and his siblings: Eugene (Doris) and Gini (Ray Mansolino). He was an avid athlete in his youth, excelling in soccer and baseball, and he played both sports while attending Duke University, serving as captain of the soccer team in his senior season. Following his graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After he left the service in Jacksonville, he was able to cultivate his love of fishing, a passion passed down from his father. He also embarked on a 37-year career with Monsanto, retiring in 2001. This long tenure is a testament to the strong commitment and loyalty that were hallmarks of his character. John was also known for his great charity of time, money, and efforts. Together with his wife, Gerrie, they passed on a legacy of giving and serving that has blessed many lives.

John met and married his wife, Gerrie Pittard D'Angelo, in 1964, when they launched a fantastic life together, passionately holding each other's hands and hearts as they built a family, raised children, and created memories for 60 years together, 50 of which were in the same house in Greer, SC.

John will be deeply missed by Gerrie, his children Stacey (Chip) and Matt (Cheryl), and his grandchildren Alex, Anna Kate (Nathan), Charis (Ethan G), Adam, and Ethan. He even found out just before his heavenly promotion that his name would live on in his coming great-grandchild! His memory will be cherished and celebrated as a testament to a life well-lived and a man dearly loved.

All are welcome to a Celebration of Life to be held at 1 pm on Monday, December 16, at Praise Assembly of God church at 800 Parris Island Gateway, Beaufort, SC 29906. In lieu of flowers, donations to Samaritan's Purse are appreciated.
