A memorial service for John Carlton Dunlap, Sr., of Hideaway, Texas, will be held on July 28, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., at Hideaway Community Church with Pastor Steve Ditmore officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m., at the church. Mr. Dunlap went to be with the Lord on July 17, 2018. He was born August 18, 1930, in Malvern, Arkansas, to Arch Alonzo and Mary Elizabeth Dunlap. John lived in Malvern and Fordyce, Arkansas, through his elementary and high school years. He went to College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas, where he graduated with a B.A. degree in Accounting. After graduation he moved to Holly Springs, Mississippi, where he began a career in the brick industry. He then met his first wife, Margaret Sharp, and they were married for 43 years before her death. He continued his career in the brick industry and lived in Delaware, Ohio; Owosso, Michigan; and Dallas, Texas, where he retired from the brick industry. His family was active in various Baptist churches as they moved with the brick industry. He has been a member of Green Acres Baptist Church for 19 years. He has also been a member and past President of the Lindale Gideon Camp organization. His family and friends will remember John for his love for his Lord, his faith, and his loving generous spirit. John was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Emogene Kuhn; brother, Everett Dunlap; and first wife, Margaret Dunlap. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Carolyn Dunlap; daughter, Anabeth Dunlap of Fairhope, Alabama; sons, John C. Dunlap, Jr., and wife Laurie of Richardson, Texas, and George Geoffrey Dunlap and wife Simona Petra of Birmingham, Alabama; sister-in-law, Nancy Dunlap, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; grandchildren, John C. Dunlap III, Mark Dunlap, Hannah Dunlap, Anna Dunlap, Thomas Dunlap, Grace Dunlap, Mia Dunlap, Austin Brakebill, Emily Brakebill, and Caitlynn Cooper; step-children, Brenda Brakebill and husband, Philip, of Allen, Texas, Linda Cooper and husband, Jeff, of Tyler, Texas; and several nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of John Dunlap may be given to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 507, Lindale, Texas 75771-0507.
