John Fay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2021.
December 11th, 2020 was a dark day for the Fay family and the many friends and co-workers who knew and loved John.

John D Fay was born on July the 23rd of 1954, in Detroit Michigan.  His immediate family, Grandfather and Grandmother lived in that great historic city. His grandfather worked for the Ford Motor Company.  His father, Colonel John H. Fay retired from the US Airforce and lived in Hampton VA and Indian River Michigan.  John was preceded in death by his sister Linda Newcomb, his nephew Bobby Van, his parents, Col. John H. Fay and Jane Fay.  He leaves behind his wife Christina Fay, his step-son Michael Harrell, a niece that he looked at as a daughter, Jennette Warren, grandchildren, Alexa Harrell, Nicholas Harrell and Trace Young, his sisters Carol Van, Gail Shaw and husband Bill, Debbie Kosloski and husband Joe, Cindy Stafford and husband John and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.  John was so proud of being a Fay, he loved his family with all of his heart.  John also had the blessings of so many wonderful friends, some even going back to Jr. High School, many are considered our family.

By trade, John was a Master Electrician, he received his apprenticeship from the Commonwealth of Virginia in September 1982 at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA and became a Master Electrician in 1984 and worked for numerous contractors at the center for over 38 years.  He was the lead Construction Manager for Jacobs Technology, under Engineering Services and received multiple awards from Jacobs, other companies, and NASA, including NASA's Silver Star Award not long before he left.  Many thanks to Jacobs Technology, they have been so good to us and was always there to support John.  He was proud to be a part of their team.  His motto for work and life in general was the 3 C's, Communication, Cooperation and Coordination.

John did so many wonderful things in his life, for his friends and family and even at work.  He was always there for all of us and we will miss him so very much!  Especially that beautiful smile, rosey cheeks like Santa, warm & sparkling eyes, his hardy laughter and his big bear hugs.

The world is a sader place without the life of John D Fay, but fortunately, the lives he touched will make it a better place.

Many thanks to all our family, friends, and co-workers who were right there with love and support through that last journey, whether by phone or in person.  You made the fight possible, the Lord gave him love, strength, mercy and grace, and with all of your love and the help from his doctors, nurses, and treatment staff, John was able to live longer.  Many thanks to Virginia Oncology and Personal Touch Hospice which made it possible to keep John at home and treated him with the utmost of care.

More research and better treatments are still needed so please consider donating to the American Cancer Society, or other cancer research institutions.

Please see my facebook posting message if you have any questions.  Please be sure to go to the Daily Press obituaries online and Legacy.com to sign the Guest Book and express condolences and share remembrances.

It was with true sadness that I read of John´s passing. I had the great privilege to work with John while I was employed with Jacobs on multiple contracts at the NASA Langley Research Center.

John was an exceptional Construction Manager, and a good friend to all who were fortunate to work with him.
John had an incredible sense of humor, and he would crack me up with some of the hilarious stories he would tell me. We spent many, many hours working together, and I enjoyed every one of them.

Like many others, I considered John to be a brother, and I wish you and your family my greatest condolences.

The world has lost an exceptional human being. I met John in 2008 when I relocated to Virginia to work on the Jacobs/NASA contract. Every time we started a new project he would say “Don’t worry, I will make you shine like a new penny”, and that he did. But John’s real gift was dealing with people. He loved helping others and everyone loved John. For me he was more than a friend, he was a big brother. I will love you and miss you forever.

Chris,
I’m so sorry for your loss. We all lost a great friend. When I first moved here John was so good to me. I couldn’t have found a more caring person to call my friend. We did all kinds of silly fun things. The 3 musketeers, Ed, John and me. I have so many wonderful memories of John, I smile whenever I think of him.
Thank you Jesus for putting John into my life.
Love you always,
~Laura Grubbs ~ ❤
