John Burroughs Fortney

John Burroughs Fortney, 70, passed away on May 25, 2024, in Burnsville, Minnesota. Born on June 23, 1953, in Canton, Ohio, he lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a love for storytelling, often infused with humor. John cherished time spent with family and friends, whether sharing meals, stories, or laughter, and was an avid fan of Ohio State football.

John's adventurous spirit was evident in his passion for road trips, often persuading his wife, Kim, to explore numerous presidential sites across the country. His professional journey was diverse, spanning roles from Engineering Manager to Real Estate Agent, before retiring. He relished the camaraderie and experiences each role offered.

A proud veteran, John served in the Navy from 1971 to 1973. His educational roots were planted at Glenwood High School in Canton, Ohio. He met and married Kim in Salt Lake City and they began a 36 year journey together.

John is survived by his loving wife, Kim; children, Jennifer (Kevin) Lutz of Columbus, Ohio; Dylan (Ashley Barr) Fortney of Indianapolis, Indiana; Caitlin (Sam) Falls of Richfield, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ben, AJ, and Addie Lutz, Rowan Fortney-Beffel, Annie, and Henry Falls; sister, Cindy (Ron) Brown of Canton, Ohio; and numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Betty Fortney; in-laws Marilyn and Leo McMullin; and brothers-in-law, Micky McMullin and Terry Seeman.

A private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on October 4th, 2024. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for October 5th, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at Terrace Oaks West Park, 12801 County Road 11, Burnsville, MN, reminiscent of a family and friends reunion. John's legacy of warmth and laughter will be dearly missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
