Dear Natalie and Brianna,

I remember a young Johnny Geyer. Red hair and freckles, he had a big smile and was full of energy. The excitement and enthusiasm he had from learning how to swim, to driving a tractor on the farm and shooting a rifle. Johnny loved the adventure of life. His Mom and Dad were very supportive and made John the man he became. They were the foundation, that John built a life of trustworthy, loyal, and helpful decisions and actions. John was a good man. I will remember the happy smiling fellow who was always willing to take time to help his fellow man and buddies too!

Respectfully yours,

Marshall W. Ritchey

You are missed and thought of often my friend.

Dear Natalie and Brianna,

When John was 11 years old and called Johnny, I took him with me to college one day. He was off school and I had classes. We walked the University of Pittsburgh campus and he got to meet my classmates and sit in on two college classes. Johnny was just awe struck. We had lunch with my friends at the Original Hot Dog Shop in Oakland. His eyes were so big at seeing all those old people, 21 years old, going to college. Johnny was impressed with Pitt.

When I took him home that evening, he told me in front of his Mom and Dad, that he hoped to go to Pitt someday. His Dad said if he did well with his books that going to Pitt was very possible. Him Mom just smiled.

That dream came true for John.

I remember this and more about John Geyer.

Respectfully yours,

Marshall W. Ritchey

So said to hear this. John and I worked together at Southwest. We ran into each other from time to time. I was just trying to reach out because it's been a few years since we talked. Always a great guy in my book.

Dear Natalie and Brianna,

I first met John in 1970. He was ten years old and my student at the Foxwood Pool. He was just learning to swim. I would wrap candy in foil and have the students duck there heads underwater to pick up the candy. Not John, he picked up the candy with his toes and transferred the candy to his hand. Never got his head or face wet.

He did learn how to swim that summer. I took him to my family farm in Bedford County, PA. We became life long friends. We have many memories that we shared. His Mom and Dad were also great friends. They even came to my rescue when my ride from the University of Wyoming ended in Beaver County, PA. They made the trip to pick me up and got me home. What wonderful friends.

If I may help in any way let me know. I am your friend.

Respectfully yours,

Marshall W. Ritchey

I am so sorry for your loss. Johnny was my hero growing up. He would protect me from the neighborhood forces of evil (usually my older brother). He was a great friend through the years. I really enjoyed getting to know you and your daughter on my return trips. Johnny: Goodnight my friend. Sleep well. Give hugs to your parents for me.
