John Gilbert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 2, 2008.
Formerly of Middletown, NY

John Gilbert III, a resident of Lehigh Acres, FL, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, entered into rest on Friday, September 26, 2008.

The son of the late John Gilbert, Jr. and Catherine Dandrea, he was born February 10, 1949, in Teaneck, NJ.

John was a diesel mechanic with Revere Smelting and Refining in Scotchtown, NY where he retired after 17 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing with his son, family and friends. In addition, he was very proud and honored to share his plethora of knowledge of mechanics with his son. In doing so, they re-built a 1979 Buick Regal that took three years to complete. The utmost importance in John's life was spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren, whom he adored immensely.

In a family statement, it was said, "Dad will be greatly missed by all and will forever be remembered in our hearts."

John leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 37 years, Lucy Marie Gilbert; his loving daughter, Jody Scicluna and her husband, Anthony Scicluna of Westbrookville, NY; his dear son, John Gilbert IV and his companion, Priscilla Plunkett of Cape Coral, FL: his two grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Scicluna and John Gilbert V; several step-brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, as well as many friends of the family. He was predeceased by his sister, Jorgianna Imbimbo, of Middletown, NY.

Upon John's wishes, a memorial service will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to his family to the following address: P.O. Box 469, Westbrookville, NY 12785.

Dear Dad,

When I look into your wonderful son's eyes and your beautiful grandson's smile, I will always be remembered of your laughter and cheer. Your love and memories we will cherish always and forever. We miss you terribly and can't wait to see you again.

We Love You,

Although the sun will never shine the same again
I'll always look to a brighter day.
Now it's too late to hold you
you've flown away
Never had I imagined
Living without your smile
I Assumed you'd always be there
I took your presence for granted
But I always cared.
I always said "I love uncle John", before I got off the phone, but now it doesn't feel like it's was enough.... I miss you!!
and I love you always!
