What a wonderful life John had. I only met him once, as he and Jane were getting off a cruise ship in the Amazon. When we were introduced, Jane realized we were U of M sorority sisters - we passed by each other on the gangplank, with grins and hugs and goodbyes. Sparrow was blessed to have the benefit of John's support and guidance in his various healthcare governance roles.
He clearly helped enhance the health system's culture of safety, quality and service with performance excellence always being the goal.
John was a truly exceptional person and a remarkable leader.

My deepest sympathy to you, Jane, and all of your wonderful family. I am sure that George would have liked to have a good conversation with John at the end of John's life but this was not meant to be, as he preceded John in death, just last summer. They really enjoyed working together at the village and sharing memories of the Grettenberger grandfather & great grandfather that came from Germany to Okemos as a pioneer farmer.
I, personally enjoyed working with John and others when I spearheaded and directed the Music in the Park at the Village. My love goes out to you and your family during this especially difficult time in our community and country. Diane

My deepest condolences on John's passing. I had the privilege of working closely with John for 5 years at Cadillac and was always impressed by his leadership, thoughtfulness and kindness. A great leader who will be missed by all in the Cadillac community. Rest in Peace.

My interaction with John when I worked at Chevrolet and General Motors was always one of great admiration. John was incredibly respected for his outstanding knowledge of the business, keen sense of humor, and just a first class individual. My deepest condolences to the family.........
