Mr. John A. "Sonny" Griner, 85, of Lenox, Georgia, passed away August 30, 2014 at his residence. He was born May 9, 1929 in St. Augustine, Florida to the late John Arthur Griner, Sr. and the late Gladys Louise Walker Griner. Mr. Griner lived most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida but has resided in Cook County since 1996. He attended Lenox Christian Fellowship Church and was a retired utility contractor. He also served honorably in the United Sates Army during the Korean War where he was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. Mr. Griner is survived by two sons, David Griner and John Griner, III, both of Lenox; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Wayne Kiser of Hilliard, Florida; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Ann Pruitt of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Helen Thompson of Big Canoe, Georgia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Griner was recently preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Lamb Griner. The Griner family will receive friends Monday evening September 1, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service will be held Tuesday September 2, 2014 at 11 AM at Lenox Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Jimmie Hinson, Rev. Bill Clayton, and Rev. Earl Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Lenox City Cemetery. David Griner, Todd Coker, Tim Coker, Gage Griner, Wayne A. Kiser, and Wayne Walker will serve as active pallbearers; Rusty Crumpton and Terrell Crumpton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
