Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 23, 2023.
On Wednesday, July 19, John Samuel Hancock passed away unexpectedly at the age of forty-seven.

Sam's quick-witted humor, tender heart, love of music and animals, and the amazing gifts of his hands will be missed by his beloved parents Ben and Lynn, brother Ben (RaeAnn), nephews Trey and Jack, and his many friends and extended family.

In remembrance of Sam's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Life with Pigs Farm Animal Sanctuary.

I´m so saddened by the news regarding my old neighborhood friend Sam! We had so many memories with the Alanton/Baycliff crew. Sam did always have us laughing when he wasn´t playing music at BK´s house!!! Sam, I´ll remember your massive smile and sense of humor forever. You were a gently soul and a good friend for many years. I hope you have them laughing on the heaviness above. Tell Ben hello for me. Katie Wall Redford

Sam was a wonderful friend to our son Bryan growing up. He was always at our house or Bryan at his house. There were sounds of go carts out in the driveway, drums and a band up in the room over the garage. Meals together. Sam went on many a boat trip with us up the Chesapeake Bay or to North Carolina and free boarding behind the boat with lots of fun and laughter. There were long car trips to Camp Morehead North Carolina with Bryan and Sam in the back seat imitating Pat Robertson and cracking joke after joke. He would also go on ski trips with us and be part of family gatherings. He was always considered part of our family. His smile would brighten a room and he would always have a quick funny remark at the ready. We loved being around him because he was so kind easy going and always willing to help. He will be sorely missed, and we are heart broken for Lynn, Ben, Ben Jr. and RaeAnn. Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. May Sam rest in the Peace of the Lord whom he worshiped and relied upon. Our hearts and prayers are with you in this time of loss and grief.

I remember Sam and my brother Bryan, as little kids, often easily having each other rolling on the floor laughing like crazy together. At what?- who knew but they had fun together.

As Sam's one and only sister by marriage, I will treasure every moment I had with him since meeting him over 21 years ago; the good times far outweigh the bad! What I wouldn't do to have one more night talking to him about his gardening, painting or woodworking... He always had a project in mind and his gifted hands were always busy. I'll let others hold on to the memories of his drumming that led to many nights of disruptive sleep for me...

We were so very blessed to share a family meal in our home with Sam shortly before he passed away. I will hold on to that memory as we prayed together while I held his hand. He was so very proud of his nephews, and they were able to experience laughing with him and clearly share his sense of humor. I look forward to hearing what he has to say when he greets me at those pearly gates with a comment that will undoubtedly make me laugh out loud. May God be with all of us as we encourage one another at this time.

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
