In memory of
Meg McLane
August 25, 2025
I miss John every single day. I treasure my memories of Christmases spent in Virginia and New Hampshire. When my mother was alive and lived in N. H., he would stay with us at her house to celebrate Christmas. When she came to visit me in Virginia, he would come to my house. We had certain traditions that we all loved that made the season special for us. As his birthday approaches, I will think of him and the memories we shared.

I was just thinking about John and wondered what he was doing and what he was up and if I could reconnect to him when I came up upon this obituary. He was a lovely person and a bright spot in my life. He was my travel agent over a number of years in Washington DC. I am sorry he is gone. Anna Phillips

John and I were friends for so many years. I already miss him terribly. I am thankful for all the memories and conversations. I think our shared background enabled us to be a great support for each other through the years. I will keep his cherished family and friends in my prayers.

Bidding adieu is necessary but not an easy task. I thank God for having had John in my life for the years and the differences he made in my life and miss him so much. May he be enjoying all that heaven has to offer.

John was a treasure of a friend!
I met John while traveling, for business, on the seacoast of New Hampshire about 20+ years ago. We had a common friend, Lois Wilson, and we stayed connected even when I moved to FL in 2009. John visited me in FL and when I would be in NH, I always made sure that John was part of my schedule. The love and support that John had for my daughter was heartfelt and appreciated. We had many phone chats from Football to Politics and I always had a spring in my step after talking with John. The calls will be missed.
"Bye for now John" until we meet again.
Sending blessings and prayers to the family and other friends, who knew Lois too. All of you contributed to this beautiful person who was loved so much.

What I loved most about John was his genuine concern for me and my family. He always asked how my kids were going. He and I always had great conversations and we shared a love for this spot under the Sarah Long Bridge in Kittery overlooking Portsmouth harbor. John I miss you my friend.

I am so very sorry to be writing this. John was a wonderful neighbor and a good friend. We shared many happy times together and he always shared his newspaper with me. He tolerated my jibs even when I would chew him out for not paying attention to his health. Rest in peace, my friend, you´ll be missed by all who loved you

It´s hard to put into words how much you meant to me Uncle John. You stepped into a father role when I was an baby and never left our side. You were quiet at times but always had words of encouragement and wisdom. The phone calls kept us close even with a 1,500 mile distance. My memories of visits in D.C. then New Hampshire will be cherished for the rest of my lifetime.
What meant the most about you was that you loved all of our children the same and always sent your love to them in every phone call. I will take a page from your book and honor you closing how you closed every single phone conversation; "by for now".

I have a very fond memory of working at Bartlett's (diner & ice cream) in New Castle when I was a teenager and John was only a few years older. He'd been put in charge and he was very patient and kind, giving me rides rides home to Portsmouth in his dark blue Covair. It seems like a thousand years ago now, but John showed such fine upbringing and generosity to me it's worth a mention. I never forgot his fine demeanor. Many years later my brother Jim Cerny became a resident of New Castle and knew John. I'm sorry to hear John has "moved on".
