John Hoffman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2025.
John Hoffman, 84, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Wildwood, Florida.

Born on March 31, 1941, in Yugoslavia, John immigrated to the United States in 1950. His early life was shaped by resilience and determination-qualities that would define his character throughout the years. He proudly served his adopted country for four years in the United States Marine Corps aboard the USS Northampton and was a veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Following his military service, John built a long and respected career at Colonial Machine Shop in Kent, where he worked for 25 years. Rising through the ranks to become a foreman, he was known for his dedication and leadership.

He was preceded in death by his Father Stefan and Mother Katherina.

John was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved Wife of 60 years, Mary Yvonne; their children: Son John (Teresa), Daughter Elizabeth, Son James (Victoria), and Son Robert; as well as five Grandchildren who brought him great joy. He also leaves behind his Sister, Rose Spreitzer, and many Nieces and Nephews.

John's legacy lives on not only through his family but also through the practical wisdom he shared with them. A caring and generous father, he took pride in teaching his sons essential skills like plumbing and electrical repair from an early age-lessons that served them well throughout their lives. His stubbornness often left him to stand firm, refusing to budge even when it was tough, but that same determination was paired with a deep care for those around him. His stern exterior hid a heart full of love, and those who truly knew him understood that his tough love was just his way of showing how much he cared.

In lieu of flowers, please make a "Give in Memory" donation to the American Red Cross. Or make a donation to Wounded Warrior Project, in John's name.

A Celebration of Life will take place in December 2025, in Wildwood, Florida

Rest in peace, Uncle John, you will be missed! Many prayers for my cousins and Aunt Vonnie. One thing I remember and loved about Uncle John was his way of telling it like it was and not worrying about how others felt about it. It always made me silently laugh and cheer for him! On a couple of occasions he caught me smiling at him and would even give me a quick wink...I think he KNEW! I hope your heavenly body is perfect and that you were met with open arms by your loved one´s! ~your niece, Stephanie xo

Condolences to all of the Hoffman family.

We will hold the wonderful fun l, with a bit a touch of sarcastic humour, memory of playing Mexican Train
last summer at the cottage.

Safe travels on this next adventure.

God Bless.
