Dear Honea family,

I am saddened to hear of your loss. I was very fortunate to have had Mr. Honea as my PE teacher at Tyrrell Elem. It was during elementary school that I first thought that one day I wanted to do what he did. His early influences helped to lead me to my career in teaching and coaching.

My thoughts are with you,

Dear Honea Family:
I am saddened to hear of your loss and want you to know what a wonderful educator and role model Coach Honea was to so many children while at Tyrrell Elem.
I am grateful for having him as one of the many virtuous people that were influential in my early development. Many of the lessons learned have served me well.
Best Regards,

To the Honea Family- My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember the good days at Tyrrell School on the playground and in the gym with all of our classmates and Mr. Honea. He taught us about fair-play and how to have fun. I remember the 50 yard dash, dodge-ball, chin-ups, and playing basketball in the gym. Now those were the good old days. We all will miss Mr. Honea.

Dear Honea Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are being lifted up in prayer during this time.
Dr. (Coach) Honea, I want to let you know how much I have admired and respected you for many years. I was fortunate to have you as a teacher at TJHS in the 80s. Because of your influence, as well as several other special teachers, I have been teaching since 1990. Thank you for the way you have cared for and invested yourself into so many lives. After reading about your dad, I can see that you have been carrying on his legacy.
Sincerely,
Lori (Baklik) Teague

Some of my first memories of organized sports come from my attendance at Tyrrell School and Mr. Honea from 56 -62. The basketball games, dodge ball, softball and playing kickball. That was a long time ago but a lot of that spirit and determination he taught will live on for the rest of my life. His legacy will live on forever. He touched the lives of many children that attended Tyrrell through the years. My families prayers are with yours during this time of your loss. God Bless.

Dear Dr. Honea,

I believe that you were my Gov't/Economics teacher some 27 years ago at TJHS. I now live out of state, but keep up on Port Arthur through the local paper via the internet.

I read your father's obituary and wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I understand how tough it is to lose a dad myself. It sounds like your father was a great man. He spent his life teaching kids, and that speaks highly of him. I would think that your career choice made him proud of you as well. I still remember the class you taught all those years ago. You must have learned a few tips from the master you've had in your life.

Please know that you and your family will be in my prayers.

Sincerely,

Joni Thacker Rowley

Although I hadn't seen Mr. Honea in over 45 years, I can remember him coming out to watch his son, Mark, play baseball in Groves, Mark being a team mate of mine. I was really moved by reading Mr. Honea's military service to our country. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Honea's family.
