John O. Hrinda John O. Hrinda, 88, formerly of 109 Miles Ave. in Girard, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge, Erie. John was born October 2, 1917, in Pittsburgh, a son of Michael and Barbara Kondas Hrinda. He was a US Army Tech Sergeant during World War II, serving from 1942 to 1946 with the 806th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the Philippine and Luzon Islands. John had worked as a machinist and foreman with Marx Toys in Girard for 45 years, Wolfe Manufacturing in Lake City, and as a security guard at Pleasant Ridge Manor for 10 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard, the Knights of Columbus, a life member of VFW Post 4965 in West Springfield, and a life member of American Legion Post 494 in Girard. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death in 2002 by his wife of 59 years, Irene K. Bacik Hrinda, whom he married Nov. 27, 1943; a daughter, Debra Irene Hrinda his stepmother, Elizabeth Hrinda, two infant brothers: Michael and Emil; a brother, George Hrinda, a sister, Eleanor Hrinda, and two step-sisters: Anna Knorr and Mary Pangratz. John is survived by two sons: Dr. Ronald Hrinda and his wife Gracie of Derry, N.H. and David Hrinda and his wife Claudia of Mason, Ohio; a daughter, Doreen Baker and her husband Carl of West Springfield, Pa.; three brothers: Mike Hrinda of Fla., Joseph Hrinda of Fairview and Daniel Hrinda of Erie; three sisters: Elizabeth Schultz of Fla., Helen Kleir of Fairview, and Irene Wisniewski of Erie; six grandchildren: Dr. Sean Hrinda, Todd Hrinda and Leslie Hrinda, Christopher Baker, Kura Cusimano and Laura Cusimano; two great grandchildren: Megan and Luke Hrinda; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30am followed by a Funeral Divine Liturgy at 11:00am at Saints Cyril & Methodius Church in Girard. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 101 Olin Ave., Girard, PA 16417.
