John Hurley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2025.
In Loving Memory of John Maurice Hurley, March 25, 1939 - June 17, 2025

John Maurice Hurley, age 86, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering optimism. Born on March 25, 1939, John was the seventh of eleven children raised in Collingswood, New Jersey, by his devoted parents, Sara and Charlie Hurley. John is survived by his brother Tom Hurley and wife, Sandy.

A man of deep faith and intellect, John spent time studying in the seminary at Saint Jerome's in Canada. Though his path eventually led him elsewhere, his spirituality and moral compass remained central to the way he lived and loved. He went on to build a successful career in healthcare sales.

John was a dedicated caregiver to his beloved wife, Irene Hurley, ensuring all of her needs were met with compassion and grace until her passing. Their life together was filled with joy, family, and a shared love of entertaining-hosting unforgettable gatherings, complete with gourmet meals, laughter, and love.

A proud and devoted father, John leaves behind his four children and their spouses: Kelly and Joe Liberato, Jen Hurley Roerty, Erin and Tom Kirk, and Brendan Hurley and Missy Purdy. He was the adoring grandfather of eight beautiful grandchildren: Alex, Danny, Megan, Matt, Sam, Brian, Isa, and Olivia-each one blessed by his love, warmth, and that unforgettable, boisterous laugh.

John wore rose-colored glasses not out of naivety, but because he chose to see the best in every situation. His extreme optimism was contagious, and he approached every day with passion, purpose, and a generous spirit. Whether he was reading a good book, cooking a hearty meal, relaxing on the beaches of Hilton Head, or sharing stories that made everyone laugh, John lived fully and loved deeply.

He is survived by countless family members, friends, and neighbors whose lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and ever-present sparkle in his eye.

John Hurley was a provider and a man who never hesitated to give more than he had. He was an optimist who lived life to its fullest with love and laughter. John brought joy to every room he entered.

He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday, June 24th from 9:30 - 10:45 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square, PA where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated following the visitation at 11:00 AM.

To John's family! My deepest condolences to you. I've known John since 1st grade at St. John's School in Collingswood. He was my "1st class crush." We were good friends for many years. I am so saddened by his passing. I wish I had been able to see or talk to him before he passed. He was very special to me. My late husband and I were privileged to have met Irene when we visited them in Hilton Head. I'm so glad that I was able to meet up with John again at our monthly CCHS luncheons. Know that your Dad and all of you are in my prayers. He will truly be missed. God bless you all.
