John Iverson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 29, 2024.
"Gone Fishing"

A giant of a man, John passed away at home October 22, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born and raised in Sunnyside, Washington, he joined the Navy after high school, serving on the USS Constellation during the Vietnam War.

After the Navy, John made a career decommissioning nuclear power plants. His jobs took him to Washington, India, Russia, Colombia, Florida, Colorado, and California.

In retirement, John and his wife's love for animals and farm life, led to breeding and raising Boer goats for 4-H and FFA members. He could often be found sitting out in the pasture, being swarmed by his four-legged buddies. He also loved road trips with his wife, yard sales, his dog "Boy", vanilla ice cream cones and early morning coffee with a good book before the world woke up.

John was an avid fisherman, spending hours on local lakes and rivers with his fishing buddy Ed. He also was a master of hand-cut scroll saw woodcrafts, spending countless hours in his shop, then showcasing his woodwork at numerous craft fairs each year.

John suffered a debilitating stroke in 2016, changing his life dramatically. His humor and gentleness came out in spades, and his remaining years brought love and laughter to all who knew him.

John will be greatly missed by his wife Joann; children Jody Haines and Brian Iverson; his stepchildren and numerous family members and friends.

Services will be planned at a later date.

The world was a much better place with John in it. The thing I remember most about John was that great big smile he always gave you. It makes me sad that smile is gone. You always knew it came from his heart. The love Jo and John had for each other was just amazing. You could just see it in their eyes. I could never have asked for a better son-in-law, he was amazing. His passing leaves a large void in my heart, My heart felt sympathy goes out to Johns family, Jo and her extended family. The first time I met John I was so impressed with his sweet nature....his eyes had a twinkle and a light in them, his smile was warm and genuine....kind. His entire countenance was happy....and so in love with Jo.
I loved how he loved my friend. I´m so very thankful John and Jo found their precious love and friendship together.
