Dear Joy, Jay and James,
Again, I am so sorry about Jack´s death. You did such a beautiful job honoring him yesterday between all of the pictures and your heartfelt tributes. I know it must have been so hard. You could tell how much he was loved and the positive impact he made on so many lives.

The news of Jack's death left me heartbroken. My memories of him from The Langley School remain vivid and cherished. As a student in my music class, he was a delightful and engaging child. My thoughts are with his loved ones, particularly James, during this difficult time. Jack's remarkable life, though tragically brief, touched many hearts, and he will be deeply remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jack "Danger" Mallek, my favorite resident by a long shot, thank you for being a rare example of consistent goodness. I will always cherish the memories we shared until the end. Steal a dining hall poster tripod for me, wherever you are, I´ll be your lookout this time.

Unfathomable loss of a beloved son, brother, grandson, friend. Taken too soon, we´re left to only imagine the life he would have had, the impact he would have made on individuals and collectively. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved him.

There are no words to express our sadness. Jack's kindness, intellect will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He loved learning Chinese language, culture, history and he even could speak Chinese as well as a native speaker. He had a deep passion for learning and a remarkable intellect. We will miss Jack so, so much!

Dear Jack, we will all miss you. Thank you for being my piano student and for having such a broad range of interests as well as great concentration and motivation. There are many memories of you and your family that bring a smile to my face.
To Jack's family and all who knew him: I'm so sorry.
There are many motivational learning stories that I have been sharing with my students for years from Jack's piano lessons. All of them are good stories for various reasons (!). In case the family remembers, some of the pieces are Allegretto 1, A Short Story, Beethoven Sonatina in G, Bonetrousle, Prelude in C.
I'm so happy the Mallek family started piano lessons way back when, and that I got to be the teacher for Jack and James for all those years. I think Jack was around 4, and James was in diapers. My calendar has the last lesson as June 20, 2016, just before going on tour. We would have worked on the accompaniments and solos for the tour, trying to get Jack and James prepared for everything the violins might do wrong. They were both great.
We covered a range of non-piano topics in lessons as well over the years. I remember Jack bringing up Newtonian fluid flow, telling me about learning Mandarin and lots of other interests, going to Langley, Longfellow and then TJ, doing his own Bonetrousle arrangements, neither Jack nor James enjoying learning music theory, interspersed with time off the piano for hospital stays when Jack was younger. Every teacher has student families they look forward to seeing each week, and Jack and James and parents were definitely one of my favorite families.
Jack's family, friends, and everyone who knows him all around the world will miss him so, so much. We'll also miss all the wonderful things he would have gone on to do. I'm so sorry.
No doubt I'll tell the stories of Jack's piano trials and tribulations in lessons again, when the new students need to hear them. Suitably exaggerated, for motivational purposes, of course. The students always smile and ask questions, many of them unrelated to piano. I hope Jack can hear them.
