John Wayne Pfifer (known as Jack) passed away at HopeWest (Ferris Care Center) in Grand Junction, CO on September 15, 2025. He was 84 years old. Jack was born on June 21, 1941 in Delta, CO to John and Hazel Pfifer. He graduated from Delta High School. He then went to California and spent some time working with an uncle. Jack moved back to help his dad on the farm and when working on Ragged Mountain he met his wife, Gilda Spadafora at a Ragged Mountain dance. They were married on January 12, 1963. They celebrated 62 years this year.

Jack worked construction with his brother-in-law, Larry Leser. He then worked at Delta Potato Growers, Doyle Petroleum and also did farming and ranching of his own. He enjoyed traveling to Montana and Idaho (to ranch), country music, dancing (the jitter bug & swing), reading ‘Farm & Ranch’ and “Fence Post”, and watching westerns on GRIT or METV. He had an infectious smile and “rolled with the flow” in almost everything.

His real passion was working with his sheep. He worked for his father-in-law running sheep above Somerset and eventually started a herd of his own. He took pride in raising 4-H club lambs for years and also served on the Delta County Fair Board. He enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Gilda, three daughters – Rhonda Goff (Allan), Stacey Willing (Mike) and Wendy Pfifer. Grandchildren - Taylor Brown, Tristan Brown, John Goff and Brandon Goff. Great grandchildren - Luke Brown (Taylor) and Ford & Collins Brown (Tristan & Brooke). He is also survived by three sisters and one brother. Loretta Karl, Janice Leser (Larry), Judy James (Carl) and Bob Pfifer and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hazel Pfifer and his older brother, Alvin Pfifer.
