JOHN KANE

JOHN KANE U.S. Air Force Retired John "Jack" Kane, of Searchlight, gently passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016. John was born Jan. 20, 1927, in San Rafael, Calif., to William Richard and Hilma Kane. In 1944, John joined the U.S. Navy. He survived his carrier USS Salamaua being kamikazied during the invasion of Luzon, Phillipines. John was shot in Korea in 1951, while in the U.S. Infantry and was presented a purple heart. Stationed in Germany, John met and married his wife, Erika B. Kaul, in June of 1957. John retired in 1967, after 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. John started the next chapter of life majoring in art and education at University Reno Nevada and working in the gallery for the art department. He received his college degree in 1972. The same year John moved the family to Las Vegas, for a job as gallery preparator for the UNLV Art Department until he retired, in 1986. John is survived by his wife, Erika; his sons, Steve (Kim), Paul (David) and Daniel (Erika C.); "Opa" will also be missed by his grandchildren, Rachel, Michael, Aidan, Dillon and Logan. Services will be at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. A celebration of life will follow at VFW Basic Post #3848, 401 W. Lake Mead Parkway, Henderson. Please join the family to share art, music, photos and stories.
