John L. Keefe, age 84, died in his Walpole, Massachusetts home on Monday, December 8, 2014.  Born in Hingham, Massachusetts on July 14, 1930, he was the son of the late William and Helen (McCormick) Keefe.  He graduated from Hingham High School with the class of 1948, where he lettered in Football, Basketball, and Baseball.  After high school, John continued his education first at Texas Military College then at Boston College, earning his his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration majoring in Accounting in 1953.  Once he graduated from BC, John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged in 1955 as a 1st Lieutenant.  He returned to school after serving in the Army and graduated from Columbia University with his MBA in 1956 and earned his PhD in Higher Education from BC in 1996.   John began his career at General Foods in New York, where he worked as an auditor from 1957 to 1970.  It was during this time period that he met his wife Marguerite and they were married on May 5, 1962.   In 1970, John moved his family from Stamford, Connecticut to Walpole, Massachusetts and took a new job as the Business Manager for Cape Cod Community College.  He moved on to become the Assistant Dean of Administration in 1977, and later became the Associate Dean of Administration in 1981.  He retired in 2006.  In his retirement, John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.   Beloved husband of the late Marguerite J. (Cheney) Keefe.
Loving father of Anne Marie Wyman and her husband Brent of Walpole, Patricia F. St. Pierre and her husband Richard of Attleboro, James E. Keefe and his wife Suzanne of Foxboro, and Susan E. Deady and her husband Christopher of Norton.
Cherished grandfather of Matthew, Timothy, David, Danielle, Joseph, Lauren, Sean, Brandon, and Ryan.
Brother of the late William Keefe, Mary McLaughlin, Joseph Keefe, Charles Keefe, Anne Strain, and Philip Keefe.
Also survived by his sister in law Margaret Keefe of Walpole, brother in law Hobson Strain of Lakeland, FL, and many nieces and nephews.   Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend John’s Life Celebration on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 4-8PM and Friday, December 12, 2014 from 9-9:30AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.

John was a colleague and good friend. We had many lively discussions related to the church, he with his Jesuit background and I with my Benedictine background. He was a good man and will be in my masses and prayers.
