Kenific, John E. Jr. GREEN ISLAND John E. Kenific Jr., 83, of Green Island, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, December 28, 2012 in Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born in Albany, son of the late John and Rose McCon ville Kenific, he has resided in Green Island for the last 55 years. John served in the US Navy during World War II and had been an Albany Police Officer and a New York State Trooper in the 1950's. He then worked as a machinist at the former John A. Manning Paper Company, now Lydall, in Green Island for 30 years, retiring from there in 1992. He then went to work for the Albany County Sheriff's Department for several years in security, retiring from there in 2004 due to illness. He is the beloved husband of 55 years of Ellen D'Aurio Kenific; loving father of Rosemarie (John) Samaniuk of Clifton Park, John (Lisa) Kenific III of Rexford and the late Laurie Ann Kenific, who died in 1975; grandfather of Robert (Jennifer) Samaniuk, Michael Samaniuk, Abigail and Samuel Kenific; great-grandfather of Alexander, Benjamin and Joseph; brother of Bette Healey of Watervliet and the late Ardith LaBarge and Jacqueline Gaddor; brother-in-law of Robert Gaddor, Angelo D'Aurio and Paul and Fortunate Maloney; best friend of 40 years of Thomas and Iseko Torrisi; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the McNulty Funeral Home, 147 Hudson Ave., Green Island on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be beside his daughter, Laurie, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. John never complained as he fought a courageous battle with his illness for many years. His family would like to thank Dr. Jose Nebres, Nancy Jane at the VA Medical Center, Jean Endryck of Palliative Care at Seton Health and the VA and Seton Health Hospice teams. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in John's memory to the Stratton VA Medical Center Hospice, the Wounded Warriors or Palliative Care at Seton Health.
