John King Obituary

John B. King John B. King, age 66 of Rockwall, TX, passed away December 22, 2006. He was born August 25, 1940, in Kennedy, TX, to J.T. and Elizabeth (Buttrill) King. Mr. King received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Industrial Management from Texas Tech University in 1964, and proudly served his country as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. In July, 1989, Lt. Col. King assumed command of Detachment 2, 2762d Logistics Squadron at E-Systems (now L3 Communications) in Greenville, TX, a position he held until his retirement in March, 1993. He accumulated more than 6,000 flying hours in various Air Force aircraft and received numerous military decorations and awards, including the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 23 Oak Leaf Clusters and Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Lt. Col. King was active in the Rockwall, TX, community, serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Economic Development Corporation and the city council. He also served as President of the Rockwall Breakfast Rotary Club. Mr. King is survived by his wife: Marilyn King of Rockwall, TX; son: Jim King and wife Anne Marie of Tucson, AZ; daughter: Melinda Roberts and fiancé Joseph Crisp of Arlington, TX; mother: Beth King of Lometa, TX; brothers: Chuck King of Houston, TX, and Robert King of Lubbock, TX; sister: Elizabeth Griess of Austin, TX; grandchildren: John and Gracie King; and beloved dog: Polo. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services under the direction of Rest Haven Funeral Home, Rockwall, TX, will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Rockwall, TX. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockwall Breakfast Rotary Club, PO Box 1221, Rockwall, TX, 75087, or to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, PO Box 191, Rockwall, TX, 75087.
