John Kolibaba Obituary

John Warren Kolibaba, 88, a guest at St. Mary's Villa Residence, formerly of Moscow, died Sunday at the residence after an illness. His wife of 51 years, the former Dorothy Smith, died July 2, 2001.

Born in Moscow, son of the late Cyril and Ceclia Edwards Kolibaba, and stepmother, Lucille Schaffer Kolibaba, he was educated in St. Paul's School, Scranton, and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Before his retirement to Sebring, Fla., he was employed by Roadway Express, where he received three plaques of recognition for his safe driving, including a Presidential Safety Citation for an Outstanding Safety Record Individual Million-Miler without an accident.

John's family would like to extend a special thank you to Lenwood and Connie Kolibab for their daily visits, which were greatly appreciated by the family. Also, thank you to the nurses and staff of St. Mary's Villa Residence and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care.

Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Drula and husband, Thomas, Tobyhanna; two grandchildren, Christopher Drula and wife, Dawn, Chantilly, Va.; and Jaime Sciabacucchi and husband. Mark, Chester Springs; five great-grandchildren, Thomas Alexander, Caroline Marie and Harper Leigh Drula, twins, Juliana Catherine, and Lucas Anthony Sciabacucchi; a brother, Lenwood and wife, Connie, Moscow; stepbrothers, William and wife Norma, Ohio; Matthew and wife, Maribeth, New Jersey; stepsisters, Doylene Smith and husband, William, New York; and Sharon Tuskan and husband, James, Texas; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Darlene.

The funeral will be Wednesday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 802 Taylor Ave. Interment , Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Family and friends may call today, 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Villa Residence, 1 Pioneer Place, Elmhurst Twp., PA 18444; or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

We were so very sorry to learn of Jack's passing! He and Dorothy were a constant presence during my childhood and I will always cherish the wonderful memories and fun times.

From the family of the late Agnes Rushin who lived across the hall from John and was his partner at the dinner table at the Villa we offer our sincere condolences. I so enjoyed having lunch with them listening to them bickering. It was so cute. May he rest in peace. I loved him.

To my Cousins I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Brother, Father,GrandFather and Great Grandfather. I do have memories of when we were young and playing marbles and jacks at his home. Blessings to you and yours.
