John Kopplin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2024.
John Joseph Kopplin, 58, passed away on November 1, 2022, in Mondovi, WI. John was born to James and Mary (Georgie) Kopplin on September 20, 1964, in Eau Claire, WI. John graduated from Regis High School in 1983 and promptly joined the United States Air Force. John proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years as a security policeman, security police trainer, information security program manager and 8 years as a USAF recruiter. John was stationed at Grand Forks AFB, ND twice and spent 3 years at RAF Upper Heyford, England before taking a recruiting assignment to Coon Rapids, MN in 1995. John earned several Silver Badges and "Rookie Recruiter of the Year" in 1997. John loved the Air Force and excelled in each assignment. He retired in 2003 and became a proud veteran.

John married Vicki (Tolstad) Kopplin on September 20, 1986 in Valley City, ND. John and Vicki welcomed Matthew Ryan on February 28, 1992 and Becca Lynn on March 12, 1996. If you knew John, you knew all about Matt and Becca and how proud he was of both of them. He coached their sports, attended their practices and games, gave tough advice when needed and loved his kids fiercely and unconditionally.

After retiring from the Air Force in 2003, John held a variety of jobs as long as they didn't interfere with his fishing. He worked for the State of Minnesota for 12 years as both a Disabled Veteran's Representative and a Reemployment Specialist. John loved supporting veterans, helping people find new jobs and teaching classes!

Along with his family, friends, serving his country, fishing and hunting, John loved to tell a good story. He was passionate, silly and loyal. John's faith was strong and it's something he shared with his family.

John is survived by Vicki Kopplin, Matthew Kopplin, Becca (Kopplin) Porter, son-in-law Drew and grandson Brock Porter, siblings Jim and Denise Kopplin, and Casey Kopplin. Ron and Maurine Tolstad, Pat and Jeff France, Lorrie and Travis Coker and many nieces and nephews that he adored.

John was preceded in death by his parents James & Georgie Kopplin, brother Chris Kopplin and both sets of his grandparents.

John was buried with full military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
