John Korogy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2025.
John David Korogy, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the morning of June 18, 2025, in San Diego. He was 64 years old. He was born on June 9, 1961, in Moses Lake, Washington, to John George and Sharon Lee Korogy. His father was an Air Force veteran who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The family spent time in the Philippines, among other places, and eventually settled in Blytheville, Arkansas, where John graduated from Gosnell High School in 1979.

After high school, John followed his brother and sister to San Diego, California, where he lived for the rest of his life. A born tinkerer, he worked as a mechanic for nearly 25 years and was fascinated with the intricate workings of everyday mechanical things. Beyond his mechanical skills, John was also a talented craftsman, building and wrapping custom fishing rods, lures, and flies. John had a wonderful sense of humor and a sharp wit, complemented by an uncanny talent for imitating voices and animal sounds. His lifelong passion for fishing eventually led him to a second career in San Diego's sportfishing industry.

John is survived by his three children, Kaitlyn Ann (Victor Guarneros) Korogy-Guarneros, Francis Scott Korogy, and Morgan Mihaly Korogy, his brother, Joseph Gene (Kali) Korogy, and his sister, Johnna Gae (William Jr.) Butterfield. He is also survived by his former wives, Kathleen (Seth) Hill, Kaitlyn's mother, and Becky Scott, mother of Francis and Morgan.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John George and Sharon Lee, and his sister, Sandra Lee Laughlin.

Per his wishes, John's ashes will be scattered off the coast of San Diego, returning him to the sea that had sustained him throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John's memory to any of the following 501(c)(3) charities:

Sorry for the loss of your Father, John and I were good friends in High School. After graduation we went our own ways. We only talked 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years, but I know he will be missed. RIP John.
