For anyone who knew my Dad's love of firewood, I found it appropriate to purchase a tree to be planted.
My Dad taught me the importance of a hard day's work, speaking out when you see injustice, standing up for the "little guy," and a few Finnish swearwords when I'd be in the garage as a kid.
He was a kind person, generous to a fault, couldn't tell a lie to save his life and was the smartest person I've ever known. I hope I even got an ounce of that.
I miss you, Dad. I miss you always calling me "Honey." You were admired by many.
His last words to me were, "You're a hard worker, I am so proud of you and you're a good person." I will cherish those words and will continue to make him proud.

As John's eldest granddaughter, I was lucky enough to be taught how to cross country ski, enjoy some black licorice, and split wood all before I could write my own name. Papa, you've taught me a lifetime of life lessons and how to be humble, proud, and work hard. I love you endlessly, and will miss you forever.

Best father anyone could ever have. Taught me TONS of stuff being his only son.

I loved and appreciated John Kurki, my husband´s brother. The stories my husband tells me of learning to ski on the back of John´s skis, his not always appreciated haircuts by John , but always his help and welding skills whenever needed. What a good guy. Always ready to help and always ready to get his chainsaw running and cut some firewood! I will miss my dancing brother-in-law!

I loved his stories. Even though I heard them more than Once.

I will forever be grateful to have been John's son in law, and I will always regret that we are not able to share more of life's adventures together. He was a wonderful grandfather to my children and was a great role model about the satisfaction that can be derived from living a simple, generous life.

John was a very good guy and friend of mine. He did welding for me when I needed it and he helped me make hay on his place for our horses. He and I had many good chats together. He sure will be missed.
