John A. Lane, 80, of Palm Coast, died Friday, October 4, 2013. Mr. Lane was born May 17, 1933 in Manhattan, NY, the only son of John and Edith Thompson Skrob. Following high school graduation, in 1951, John enlisted and served four years in the United States Military during the Korean War. He then re-enlisted and served three more years in the Navy's Seabee's. He was honorably discharged and returned to New York City, where he spent a brief time working on Wall Street. He then moved to Brooklyn and began a 30 year career with United Parcel Service, where he worked as a driver and later as a conveyor mechanic. In the late 1970's, he moved to Mahopac, NY, where he met and later married, his soul mate, Diane Koop. In 1989, he retired from UPS and they moved to Florida where they enjoyed "the good life", first in Orlando and then in the Sea Colony community of Flagler. After Diane's death due to cancer, John bought a house in Palm Coast, where he resided until his demise. John was a true gentleman and a "man's man". He enjoyed playing golf, loved his Cadillac and appreciated a good scotch. John is survived by two step-daughters, Sharon Wagner, of Windale, NY, and Deborah Hawley of Pleasantville, NY); one niece, Barbara Mangelli of Patchogue, NY and a grand-niece and grand nephew. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Lane; his sister, Ruth Maria Byrne and his nephew, Robert Christopher Byrne. Family and friends will be received on October 19th from 9:30 - 10:30 am, at the Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road in Flagler Beach, where a memorial service will be held at 10:30 with Fr. Peter Akin-Otiko officiating. Condolences may be sent to www.craigflaglerpalms.com
