John Marvin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2003.
John Gary Marvin tragically departed from this world after a massive heart attack on Saturday, November 8th. He is welcomed into his eternal home by his Lord Jesus Christ. Johnny was born on March 4, 1948 in San Antonio, Texas, but was raised and resided in Mexico City, Mexico for the majority of his youth. He was an adventurous spirit and avid outdoorsman. He attended Culver Military Academy, SMU, and the University of Akron. He married the love of his life, Lindsay Weatherston on August 4th 1973. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Gary and Shannon. They moved to San Antonio in 1982 and made their home in Alamo Heights. Johnny's strong sense of family and enduring love are evident in the lives of his wife and children. He was always there to share a bit of humorous wisdom and a hearty laugh. Johnny was a man seeking a heart like that of Jesus. He honored the Father by lovingly caring for his mother, Edwina Marvin. Johnny and Lindsay also recently returned from a mission trip to Honduras. They had gone to Honduras on their 30th wedding anniversary as a celebration of their faith in the Lord and their love for each other. 'His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servantÉenter thou into the joy of thy Lord.' Matthew 25:21. Johnny was a loving and devoted husband and soul mate, a doting father, and a dedicated son. Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Robert Marvin; mother-in-law, Ann Weatherston. He is survived by his wife, Lindsay Marvin; son, John Gary Marvin, Jr. and Jen; daughter, Shannon Marvin Brown and husband, Rocky; mother, Edwina Marvin; brothers, Robert, Paul and his wife, Barbara; grandfather-in-law, Douglas Weatherston; father-in-law, George Douglas Weatherston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug Weatherston, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Weatherston, Mr. and Mrs. Butch Klein, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Weatherston; and a wealth of nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Margie and Walter Benson for administering CPR until the emergency medical services arrived. MEMORIAL SERVICE WEDNESDAY 1:00 PM ST. Today, I was randomly thinking of the Marvin family and their living in Mexico City until they moved to San Antonio. Both of their young children were fluent in Spanish. Johnny was a supremely kind and generous person, and he truly deserved to marry into the finest family and extended family I have ever known: the Weatherstons.
