John McAdams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 27 to Oct. 28, 2022.
John Anthony McAdams of Washington, D.C. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022, at the age of 80. Beloved husband of Patricia (Alfie) for 56 years. Loving father of Patricia Mosele, John (Kim) McAdams, and Mary Elizabeth (Tim) Jensen. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Jack, Lily, Owen, Maeve, Dorothy, and Dylan. Dear brother of Edward J. (Joanne) McAdams and Catharine (Stephen) Alport and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his dear parents Edward J. & Catharine H. McAdams and his sister, Ann McAdams Sheehan. Born on February 15, 1942, John grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL, and attended Loyola Academy in 1959 before heading to College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA where he received his undergraduate degree in Economics in 1963. John was commissioned by the United States Navy upon graduation where he served in Naples, Italy on the USS Mississinewa (AO-144). John married Patricia at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Hyde Park, IL on June 25th, 1966. John later earned his MBA from DePaul University. He and Alfie spent 8 years raising their family in Chicago and later moved to Glencoe, IL in 1977. John retired from The EXIM Bank as COO and Board Member. Previously, he served as EXIM Bank's Senior Vice President of the Export Finance Group and Senior Vice President of Credit and Risk Management before holding a number of executive management positions at Continental Bank/Bank of America in Washington D.C and Chicago, including responsibilities for trade finance, corporate banking in the Midwest and New England markets and oversight of the Asia-Pacific region. His last position at Bank of America was President of The Private Bank for the Mid-Atlantic region. John also served on the Board of Directors of Private Export Funding Corporation (PEFCO), The Coalition for Employment through Exports (CEE), The National Symphony, and PBS of Washington D.C. Work, community, and service, John treasured his gift of family above all else. For John, the highest calling and most fulfilling role was as a husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral Mass will be held at 2pm, Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Saint Ita Catholic Church, 5500 North Broadway, Chicago, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Parkinson's Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

McAdams Family... I just learned that John had passed away. He was my boss and mentor at Continental Bank and there was no better! He talked about all you so lovingly. May his memory be for a blessing. Hilary Wolfe

Alfie -
A person from your past. I was sad to read about
John in the Tribune today.
I have wonderful memories of John and you and
your family at Hockey games when our boys were young. Just passed your house in Glencoe recently and was thinking about you.
Very sad for you and your family.
Be Well.
