John McAllister Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 22, 2025.
Mr. John William "Rusty" McAllister, 78, passed away on February 18, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas.

John was born on May 3, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in Corpus Christi and attended Tuloso-Midway High School, where he played football before graduating in 1964. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1964 to 1968. During his service, he was honored to be part of the work detail at President Lyndon B. Johnson's ranch.

In 1968, John married Shirley Culp, and together they built a life filled with love and dedication to their family. They welcomed their daughter Lisa in August of that year and their son Michael in 1971 while living in Austin, Texas. In October of 1977, John moved his family to Georgetown, Texas, where they would establish deep roots in the community.

John had a long and accomplished career as a diesel mechanic, working for several organizations throughout his life, including Searcy GMC, Austin State Hospital Motor Pool, Parker & Rodgers, Austin White Lime, and Capital Land & Livestock. His strong work ethic and mechanical expertise were well respected by those who knew him professionally.

A devoted Christian, John served as a deacon for many years at Weir Baptist Church. His faith was an integral part of his life and guided him in his commitment to helping others. He also dedicated time to his community as a leader for the Jonah 4-H Club and as a member of the Williamson County Livestock Association while actively supporting Lisa and Michael's activities growing up.

John found great joy in hunting and fishing but cherished nothing more than spending time with his family. Holidays were especially meaningful to him as they brought everyone together under one roof-a time he treasured deeply. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life; he adored them beyond measure and took immense pride in being an involved grandfather and great-grandfather.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley McAllister; daughter Lisa McAllister; son Michael McAllister; brother-in-law Dewayne Culp; granddaughters Brittany Hazzard (and husband David), Megan Gustus, Sarah McAllister, Cheyenne McAllister (and partner Danny Boylan); great-grandsons Preston Dombrowski, Koden Oatney, Gunner McAllister, and Kane Hazzard; great-granddaughters Raelynn Maxville and Adelyn Dombrowski; along with several nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents John W. McAllister Sr. and Doris Bishop McAllister; father-in-law Alfred Theo Culp; mother-in-law Jeannie Culp; sister Karen McAllister Kincaid; niece Dawn Ingram; and brother-in-law Michael Theo Culp.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date to honor John's memory. His legacy of love for family, faith, hard work, and community will live on through those who knew him best.

Grandpa I got to build the FINAL "legacy" Model Y and I know how proud you would be. You were everything a kid hoped a grandpa would be and I´m so honored and blessed to have experienced your love and kindness. You always treated me like I was your own and I´ll never be able to thank you enough. I wanna say thank you to the McAllister family for accepting me into your family and for letting me experience how amazing grandpa John was<3. I love you grandpa and miss you more than anything<3
