John Howard McCoy, Jr.

John Howard McCoy, Jr., aged 85, passed away on August 13, 2024, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born in Cincinnati on December 3, 1938.

John honorably served in the US Army starting in 1956 and was stationed in Korea for 1 year, where he contributed to the post-war efforts.

After his military service, He started a 35-year career with Formica and met his lifelong friend, Herman. He also volunteered with the local Fire Department, Life Squad and was a bus driver.

He was passionate about his two German Shepherds, Hank and Sadie, and could often be found thrifting and exploring flea markets with Ella. He spent many years as a hobbyist photographer, birdwatcher, motorcycle rider, avid hunter and member of the Gun Club. He spent many hours creating his model trains display. John also dedicated 6 years to coaching for the Groesbeck SAY Soccer Assoc. and 5 years as a Cub Scout Master.

John's legacy is carried on by his partner, Ella K Gibson-Karcher; his brother, Thomas McCoy (Arlene); his children, Brian McCoy (Donna), Connie Lanter (Ed), and Maureen McNeil (Robert); along with 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Howard McCoy and Virginia A. (Cullman) McCoy.

John McCoy, Jr. will be remembered for his character and the impact he made on his family and community. He chose to donate his remains to the Cincinnati College of Medicine for the purpose of aiding medical science. A celebration of life will be at a later date.
